About
Harbin Medical institution is a public institution in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. HMU was formed in 1926 and has a long history of success and rich traditions. It was formed by the merger of the old Harbin Medical University (a.k.a. Harbin Special Medical School, founded by a pioneer medical doctor in China, Dr. Lian-De Wu) and the former first and second branch schools of Xingshan Chinese Medical University (a.k.a. Chinese Red Army Health School, established in 1931 in Ruijin, Jiangxi).
HMU was formed in 1926 and has a rich history and traditions. Dr. Wu Liande, HMU’s first president, graduated from the University of Cambridge.
Internationally Recognized Medical Education: In 2006 and 2007, a pilot accreditation of medical education and a review visit were conducted at HMU by a WFME team (the World Federation of Medical Education), which was referenced according to the WFME Global Standards in Basic Medical Education, and HMU meets the requirements of all 36 sub-standards. Hence, it served as China’s first medical education accreditation that followed global standards.
Highly-Qualified Faculty and Staff: Most HMU educators hold doctorates or the highest attainable degree in their field of study, having studied or conducted research overseas. They are participating in HMU’s Medical Education Reform and are familiar with current educational concepts such as PBL and course integration.
