About
Nantong University, founded in 1912, grew out of the Nantong Medical Specialized School and the Nantong Textile Specialized School, both created by industrialist Zhang Jian. It was created in 2004 by the merger of three institutions: Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology, and Nantong Normal College. It scored 98th in the China University Evaluation 2025 and 113th in the ESI Comprehensive Ranking of Chinese Universities, respectively.
The university has 26 institutions, including an independent college, an allied hospital, and schools for international and continuing education. Moreover, it provides seven first-level doctoral programs as well as several master’s programs in a variety of fields. Notably, numerous fields are ranked in the top 1% in the global ESI rankings.
Nantong University has roughly 3,274 faculty members, including 1,697 senior titles and 1,913 doctoral/master tutors. Additionally, it serves nearly 45,000 full-time undergraduates, over 6,000 postgraduates, and about 1,000 international students. The average annual employment rate reaches 95 percent. The institution also has various cutting-edge research facilities, including national and provincial vital laboratories.
