Fujian Medical University (Chinese: 福建医科大学) is a university located in Fuzhou, Fujian, China. Fujian Medical University was first founded in 1937 as Fujian Provincial Medical Vocational School. The name of the school was later changed to Fujian Provincial Medical College in 1939, and changed again to Fujian Medical College in 1949. In 1969, it merged with Fujian Chinese Traditional Medical College and the medical department of Huaqiao University. Fujian Medical University was then founded and moved to Quanzhou, Fujian. In the end, it was moved back to Fuzhou in 1978. The school was renamed to Fujian Medical College in 1982 and then changed back to the present name in April 1996.

Over 77 years of development, FMU has evolved into a large educational institution that offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Moreover, FMU combines teaching, research, medical care, and social services. The institution has two campuses, Shangjie and Taijiang, which cover approximately 100 hectares.

FMU has 20 schools and departments that offer 24 undergraduate programs, 29 doctoral programs, and 63 master’s degrees. Right now, they have over 13,000 undergraduates and around 2,600 graduate students. Moreover, FMU has around 9,280 employees, including 1,241 faculty, with a sizable share holding high professional positions.

The institution also operates 16 affiliated hospitals and 30 clinical teaching hospitals. Since 1998, it has hosted over 300 international students and is authorized to recruit foreign students for English-taught medical programs. In addition, it began accepting Chinese government scholarship students in 2011, and now hosts over 300 international students.
