Wenzhou Medical University, located in Wenzhou City, is a coastal city with a developed economy. Wenzhou Medical University is a medical-focused higher education institution that also promotes the harmonious development of other disciplines such as science, technology, arts, management, law, and education. As one of Zhejiang Province’s key universities, Wenzhou Medical University is able to grant master’s, doctoral, and engineering degrees in addition to having the ability to grant professional titles. The university has become a primary base for cultivating medical talent in Zhejiang Province. Over the years, graduates from Wenzhou Medical University have achieved high average scores and pass rates in the National Doctor License Examination, ranking among the top medical universities in China.

With three campuses at Chashan, Xueyuan Road, and Xiushan, the university has a total floor area of 500,000 square meters and an area of about 800,000 square meters (1,290 亩 mu). The university library has a collection of about 1,280,000 books. Currently, there are more than 8,000 professional staff and over 11,900 full-time students committed to advancing academic disciplines and research projects. Additionally, the university has 17 affiliated hospitals with a total of about 12,000 beds.

In recent years, Wenzhou Medical University has actively worked to internationalize education, forming collaborative partnerships with more than 62 foreign academic institutions, colleges, and universities. These partnerships include projects like founding a Confucius Institute in Thailand, a joint OD program between the US and China, and other staff and student exchange programs.

Since 1993, Wenzhou Medical University has been qualified to recruit international students. It is one of thirty medical universities in China that meet the Ministry of Education’s quality control standards for enrolling international students and offering English-language programs. Wenzhou Medical University established the School of International Studies in April 2006, and began recruiting international medical students. Since then, it has grown into one of Zhejiang Province’s largest educational institutions for international students. The School of International Studies offers two undergraduate programs to overseas students: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). Currently, it has 458 international students from over 40 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, America, and Australia. At the same time, around 105 non-degree students are recruited from our cooperation institutes abroad yearly.

Wenzhou Medical University has established two Confucius Institutes: one at Burapha University in Thailand and another at the State University of New York College of Optometry in the United States, to foster friendly relationships with partner institutions, improve understanding of the Chinese language and culture among international Chinese learners, and provide conducive learning environments. These institutes promote international exchange and cooperation in the fields of Chinese language teaching, Chinese culture, and Traditional Chinese medicine.
